A North Dakota Trailer Bill of Sale serves as proof of ownership transfer of a carrying platform. It also documents the value of the trailer for tax and registration purposes.
Since in North Dakota it’s mandatory to license and title nearly all trailers, the bill of sale may be necessary for registering the vehicle with the ND Department of Transportation.

Registering a Trailer in North Dakota
In North Dakota, you must title and register any trailer over 1,500 pounds used for any commercial purposes. If your trailer weighs 1,500 pounds or less and is only for personal use, you do not need to register it in North Dakota.
You do not need a title or registration for a trailer you use to carry ATVs, snowmobiles, boats, personal watercraft, or unregistered motorcycles, regardless of the trailer’s weight. You must, however, register a recreational vehicle trailer irrespective of size if you use the recreational vehicle in competitions.
Whether or not your trailer requires a title and registration, you benefit from using a North Dakota trailer bill of sale to document the transfer of ownership.
What Paperwork Is Required To Register a Trailer in North Dakota?
The state may require the following paperwork for your North Dakota trailer registration:

Registration must be renewed annually, except for certain semi-trailers and farm trailers eligible for permanent trailer registration. Permanent registration is not transferable, so you must re-register a qualifying trailer for each ownership transfer.

Trailers used for agricultural purposes may register as farm vehicles for a different fee. You can also purchase an identification plate for a non-titled trailer for a $5 fee if you plan to take your trailer out of state.
